Rifat-e-Imam Hussain (A.S) Book Summery:

al-Hussain ibn Ali (January 626, Medina, Arabia [now Saudi Arabia]—October 10, 680, Karbal, Iraq), Muslim hero and grandson of the Prophet Muhammad through his daughter Fimah and son-in-law Al (the first Shia imam and fourth Sunni Rashidun caliph). Shia Muslims see him as the third imam (after Al and usayn’s older brother, asan).

Following their father’s assassination, Al, Asan, and Usayn acquiesced to the rule of Muwiyah, the first Umayyad caliph, from whom they received pensions. usayn, on the other hand, refused to acknowledge Muwiyah’s son and successor, Yazd, as legitimate (April 680).

The townspeople of Kfah, a Shia majority city, then encouraged usayn to come there and raise the standard of insurrection against the Umayyads. usayn headed off towards Kfah with a small group of relatives and followers after obtaining some encouraging signs. He encountered the poet al-Farazdaq on the way and was told that the Iraqis’ hearts were for him, but their swords were for the Umayyads, according to legend. On behalf of the caliph, the governor of Iraq dispatched 4,000 troops to apprehend usayn and his tiny gang. They cornered usayn near the Euphrates River’s banks in a place named Karbal (October 680). When Usayn and his guards refused to submit, they were slain and Ḥusayn’s head was sent to Yazīd in Damascus (now in Syria).
